Episode 160 from The Talk of Santa Clarita: James Webb, Candidate for Hart School Board.
From left to right: Jude, Charles, James, and Conor
I am excited to run as a candidate for the William S Hart Union High School District Trustee Area 4 school board representative. As an educator and a parent, I have observed significant cultural shifts within the Hart District, our valley, and our city that have the opportunity to enrich our community fabric if we seize upon the occasion to enact changes that will impact our students, the district staff, our families, and the teachers and administrators of the Hart School District. I am eager to begin my campaign, and I know that if we work together, we can achieve a much-needed shift in thinking that will enable the Hart District to face challenges that involve all stakeholders to support both the academic and social-emotional well-being of all children
I began my career with the William S. Hart Union High School District in August 2000 at Saugus High School where I taught English 9 and American Literature for four years. While at Saugus High School, I also served in the capacity of English department chair for two years. It was also at Saugus High where I became a National Board certified teacher.
In 2008, I went to West Ranch High School to teach Honors English 9 and English 11. It was in the next year of my service to West Ranch High School where I found my passion – working with students who have English language needs. I planned and constructed an English Language Development program that promoted focused attention to the core curriculum and paralleled the college preparatory courses in which students would enroll so that their chances to attend college were not hindered by denying classes for competitive post-secondary applications.
In 2004, I was selected to be a Consulting Teacher for the district’s Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) program. With this position, I became a full-release mentor to new teachers who were hired into our district in an effort to provide guidance and support in the areas of instructional strategies, classroom management, planning lessons, and maintaining professional responsibilities. In addition to this role, I also served as a mentor for assistance with new teachers who were clearing their credentials through the Hart Induction Program.
In November 2019, I began a new journey at the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as a Consultant in Teacher Preparation. I was very fortunate in that I did not have to leave my beloved community of Santa Clarita and could telecommute to Sacramento as needed. With this new position, I assist preliminary teacher and administrator programs as they work to help with initial licensure in the state of California.
Throughout all of my career endeavors, my family has supported me with love, understanding, and patience. My husband Charles is currently the video production teacher at Castaic High School. We were married in 2013 in West Hollywood when the landmark Supreme Court case opened marriage equality in California.
In 2010, we adopted our two sons into our forever family. Jude, our older son, is 12 years old and is a 7th grader in the Hart District. Conor, our younger son, is 11 years old and is a 6th grader in the Saugus Union School District. Both of our sons play basketball and have been active in the Santa Clarita Youth League and with Way2Go Sports.
When not working, our family enjoys to travel around California and to visit our family in Florida. We also enjoy reading together, taking hikes, movies, and visiting theme parks.
